Woodblock Print by Utagawa Hiroshige
A unframed woodblock print (ukiyo-e) by famous artist Utagawa Hiroshige from his series entitled ‘The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō’. This series of woodblock prints was first published in 1834 CE. Hiroshige lived from 1797 until 1858 CE. This is print number 35 titled ‘Yoshida’.
The print measures 36.6 cm (14.4 inches) long by 24.1 cm (9.5 inches) tall. The vintage woodblock print, done during the Shōwa Period, has been attached likely by glue to poster board. There is one central major crease, small water stain on the upper right side, and a few areas of minor foxing on the print. On the backside of the poster board in Arabic numerals is ‘99’ hand written in pencil. There are also remnants of old Scotch tape on the poster board. Overall the condition of woodblock print is fair.
