The is an antique iron handguard (tsuba). The design, a common one seen on many Nobuie tsuba is an interrupted Tortoiseshell pattern (kikko-mon). It has a raised rim. The handguard measures 8.3 cm (3.3 inches) wide by 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) high. The rim of the handguard is 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) thick. The handguard is unsigned by the artist who made it.
