• Short Sword (wakizashi) in Late Edo Period Style Mounts

    SKU: NS3

This is a short sword (wakizashi) in original antique late Edo Period style mounts. The sword blade and mounts both date from the late Edo Period mid-19th Century. While the blade is not in polish it does shows a temper pattern (hamon) style consisting of reciprocal elements (gunome) and good overall shape and blade geometry. The forging pattern (jihada) is not very clear due to the condition of the polish.

    • Product Information

The blade like the mounts are both unsigned (mumei). They also both dates from the late Edo Period circa the early to mid-19th Century. The cutting edge of the blade (nagasa) measures 15.5 inches (39.4 cm). The full length of the short sword in its original mounts is 24.0 inches (61 cm). Overall the condition of the mounts is very fine. The only thing missing from this original matching fittings set is the accessory knife (kogatana). The blade itself is in good condition with some minor scratches and black stains that obscure the temper line in few places including the tip (boshi) which could be easily fixed with a new art polish by a professional Japanese sword polisher.
