Japanese Sword Handle Ornaments (menuki) of Seashells
They are large antique Japanese sword handle ornaments (menuki) made for a long sword (katana). They are made of the copper-gold alloy (shakudō) with silver inlays. The design is one that invokes the ocean with an arrangement of seashells and seaweed. The set was likely made by an early independent goldsmith (ko-kinkō) during the Azuchi-Momoyama Period circa the late 16th and early 17th Century.

They are unsigned by the artist who made them. Both handle ornament measures 4.8 cm (1.9 inches) long. The condition of this set is excellent. They come in a custom fitted wooden storage box that is scripted in Japanese with the name of the previous owner who had the custom box made. On the outside of the box is a short description of the ornament set.
