Japanese Sword Handle Ornaments (menuki) of Egg Plants
They are antique Japanese sword handle ornaments (menuki) dating from the late Edo Period circa the early to mid-19th century. They are large likely for mounting on the handle of a long sword (katana) and are made of the Japanese sliver-copper alloy (shibuichi). The design is that of Egg plants.
The handle ornaments are unsigned. One ornament measures 7.1 cm (2.8 inches) long and the other measures 5.7 cm (2.2 inches). The condition of the antique ornament is excellent. They date from the late Edo Period. The custom wooden storage box in the fourth photograph is included in the sale.
