Japanese Sword Handle Ornaments (menuki)
They are large antique Japanese sword handle ornaments (menuki) made for a long sword (katana). One ornament is made of refined copper (suaka) and the other of the copper-silver alloy (shibuichi). The design is that of two different horses in portrait one from the back side and the other from the front side.
They are unsigned by the artist who made them. The one handle ornament measures 3.1 cm (1.2 inches) long and the other 3.2 cm (1.3 inches). The condition of this set of antique ornaments is excellent. They date from the late Edo Period circa early to mid-19th century.
