Japanese Sword Handle Ornaments (menuki)
They are large antique Japanese sword handle ornaments (menuki) made for a long sword (katana). They are made of refined copper. The design is that of two different styles of Japanese helmet face plates (mempō) and a single arrow.
They are unsigned by the artist who made them. The one handle ornament measures 4.5 cm (1.8 inches) long and the other 3.4 cm (1.3 inches). Overall the condition of the antique ornament is excellent. They date from the late Edo Period circa early to mid-19th century. The wooden storage box in two photographs are included in the sale.
