Iron Sword Handguard (Tsuba) with Small Openwork (Ko-sukashi) Designs
This handguard (tsuba) with carved and cut with small openwork (ko-sukashi) designs. It is made of forge iron. The design is that old worm damaged wood. I am seen similar textures on incredibly old statues at Buddhist temples Japan. It has brass rim cover. It was made during early to mid-19th Century and is signed: "Shigenobu (重信), Shōami (正阿弥)".
