Iron Sword Handguard (Tsuba) with Small Openwork (Ko-sukashi) Designs
This handguard (tsuba) with carved and cut with small openwork (ko-sukashi) designs. It is made of forge iron. The design is that old worm damaged wood. I am seen similar textures on incredibly old statues at Buddhist temples Japan. It has brass rim cover. It was made during early to mid-19th Century and is signed: "Shigenobu (重信), Shōami (正阿弥)".
The handguard measures 7.4 cm (2.9 inches) wide by 7.5 cm (2.9 inches) high. The rim of the handguard is 0.4 cm (0.2 inches) thick. The handguard is signed: "Shigenobu (重信), Shōami (正阿弥)". Overall the condition is excellent.
