Iron Sword Handguard (Tsuba) with Hot Stamps
This is a very large iron antique handguard (tsuba) with a heavily hammered surface intermixed with hot stamps of the "天" (ten) Kanji character. It was likely made by Tenpō School circa the late Edo Period (~1770-1868 CE).
The handguard measures 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) wide by 9.0 cm (3.5 inches) high. The rim of the handguard is 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) thick. The handguard was unsigned by the artist. The condition is excellent.
