Sword Handguard (Tsuba) with Hot Stamps
This is a large iron antique handguard (tsuba) hot stamp designs hammered into the iron. It was likely made by Tenpo School during the late Edo Period circa the early to mid 19th Century. The rim of handguard is nicely raised above the surface of the handguard.
The handguard measures 8.7 cm (3.4 inches) wide by 9.3 cm (3.6 inches) high. The rim of the handguard is 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) thick. The handguard was unsigned by the artist. The condition is excellent.
