Woodblock Print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (SK1)
Woodblock print (ukiyo-e) by famous artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi. He was one of the leading artists of the Utagawa School and trained under Utagawa Toyokuni. He lived during the late Edo Period (early to mid-19th Century). He favored vivid colors and the subjects of beautiful women, actors, and famous warriors in the composition of this woodblock prints. This print is of an actor reenacting a famous scene from a play. Kuniyoshi lived from 1798 until 1861.
This single sheet format woodblock print is in a modern wood frame under acrylic. The print was done in three colors (red, blue, and black). Framed the woodblock print measures 56.1 cm (22.1 inches) high by 43.7 cm (17.2 inches) wide. The condition of this antique woodblock print is excellent.
